We are excited about the potential of PACE in Alberta! The AB government has passed the legislation and now it’s up to municipalities and counties to adopt bylaws to allow their residents to participate.
Basically, you borrow money for renewable energy installations (and energy efficient installations) and pay it back through your property tax. It means no upfront costs for something like a solar array and if you end up selling your property, the new owners take over that loan. (You can only finance over the expected lifespan of the technology.)
This Youtube doesn’t talk about PACE, but it does talk about the future of energy and what’s happening with disruptions in the energy market. Programs like PACE will allow farms like ours to put in solar energy (and potentially energy storage) without having a large upfront capital cost.
