On CBC, you can watch the first two seasons of “Escape to the Chateau”. I can’t said I would normally recommend watching TV shows but this one we really enjoyed! I have not yet figured out how to watch season 3… maybe CBC will carry it in a few months.
In a nutshell, a couple from England (Dick and Angel) end up purchasing a derelict chateau in France. The couple are extremely hardworking and very well organized. They are inspiring in that they constantly go after their dreams and come out the other end glowing! I know there are lots of people who have purchased chateau’s and renovated them. This story just happens to be available and very fun to watch!
I would love to do some of the business ideas that they have but we seem to be quite limited by our regulations. They are doing food lovers weekends where couples stay with them and eat three meals a day. It’s a great idea but we are not able to do that in our county. We can only serve breakfast. The chateau also put in a very interesting septic system – they can pump the effluent back into their pond because it’s so clean! We would love to have that option but it’s not even legal to do those septic systems in Alberta.
